Green Day: ‘If you want to experience British culture, go to see Millwall play’
Green Day singing the praises of Millwall. If I am honest I am a bit crestfallen that West Ham weren't at least mentioned in this context.

"Billie Joe Armstrong, vocals and guitar: I went to a lot of football games: Arsenal, Leyton Orient, Fulham. I went to The Den to see Millwall. That was amazing. Man, if you really want to experience British culture that’s what you should do. Football is like a fucking religion. It’s like being at a big rock concert. You practically need earplugs! I’ve always wanted to check out all the different divisions, not just the world-class teams like Arsenal and Man City. I wanted to go to some of the lower-league games – especially Millwall, which has that gritty, pissed off, underdog, “no one likes us and we don’t care” vibe. It reminds me of being an Oakland Raiders fan."

To be fair, if he had been to a typical game at the London Stadium, he would not be likely to be raving about the incredible atmosphere etc...🤷‍♂️

Badger, yep, it was a lazy comparison by me, just touching on US post punk bands in genearl, and you're right, Husker Du and GD weren't exactly aiming for a similar end product.

My favourite 'pop' type post punk band from the US were Moving Targets, early 80s. They were labelled hardcore but I never knew why, the album 'Brave Noise' is a lot more melodic and at times 'poppy' than most hardcore stuff.

Yes they won Super Bowl XI beating my team the Minnesota Vikings 32-14, you may have heard of their coach, John Madden.

I think the Millwall connection was because their fans could be a "bit rowdy"?

Much preferred Husker Du.

I don’t get the Oakland Raiders comparison tbh. Don’t watch American football, but didn’t they win the Super Bowl? Hardly a like for like?
